  • US-Peru Free Trade Agreement

The Peru FTA will lead to further exploitation of animals and the environment in Peru. Many believe that the upcoming trade agreement with Peru could act as a gateway for other Latin American countries to pass free trade agreements in places like Colombia where the majority of indigenous farmers strongly oppose the plans. Industry and government experts expect foreign mining investment to increase as well as logging. These industries destroy the delicate and irreplaceable habitats in Peru's rainforests and contribute to subsistence hunting of thousands of wild animals. In addition, U.S. exports of poultry, pork, and beef will increase.
